NAT COL AND THE KINGS – Hush

(jaynie Records)

> Come ‘round to a BBQ at my place y’all. We got beers and sausages and overly meaty meats of the sort and we’re gonna have a good time guaranteed.

Nat Col And The Kings and their song Hush, is perfectly suited to a sunny, dry summer afternoon, a few hours before a BBQ ‘round my place. We got a few beers, we got a few sausages and we’re gonna have a good time. The main point here you ask? Well I’d tell you if you let me finish! Party song… The beat is fast and rapid, it makes you wanna shake what your mamma gave ya! When no one else is around of course… The vocals are casual and laid back, but that adds to the overly relaxed vibe of this song. The lyrics, as well as the instrumentation, is taking it to the man and screwing with the system. A rare relief in the pop dominated world of today. This song is stripped back to the nitty gritty, sounding like a group of friends jamming in a basement, in a good way.

I can perfectly picture this song going off at a Bluesfest, or a festival of the sort. More highs and lows are needed however. This song goes for over four minutes, and more variation is key to taking it to the next level and to keep the listeners attention. They need something to set them apart from the pack, that “X factor”. If Nat Col and The Kings refine their image (look at the album cover) and continually produce songs like this and above, pleasant surprises await them in the near future.
